Wine Advocate 94+. The 2022 Alea Riesling is made from fruit grown at the Grosset Rockwood vineyard. This is the off-dry Riesling in the lineup, and I can tell you now, the sugar, the phenolics and the acidity are in a textural mesh of harmony in the mouth. There is a cross-hatch component to the mouthfeel, and it suspends the fruit over the tongue and out over the long finish. This is a really smart, composed, long (at this stage, quiet) and concentrated example of Clare Valley Riesling, proving Jeff Grosset is the master of the craft still. Yum. Drink by 2037. This vintage the distinct character of our vineyard at Watervale has been...

Grosset Alea Riesling 2022 (WA 94+)
Grosset G110 Riesling 2022
The fourth vintage of this single clone - 110 - riesling is as stunning as the previous releases - and subtley different from them. It's still sourced from the tiny plantings of the clone on the biodynamic Rockwood Vineyard. Georgie Grosset is still perfectly happy to remind her Dad that she suggested the clone was so different from the other Grosset rieslings that it needed to be bottled separately. Almost overwhelming, voluminous perfumes leap from the glass signifying that this is special. There's a generosity on the palate, too, expansive, even a touch dramatic, showing lemongrass and lemon drop flavours. There's a depth of flavour, a...
Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2022 (JS 98) (#2 Top 100 Wines)
James Suckling 98/100 #2 - Suckling Top 100 Australian Wines 2022 "Spectacular nose with a cornucopia of delicate citrus, stone-fruit and wildflower aromas. Then, a no less stunning combination of fruit and radically slate, flint and aniseed character. Very long finish with so much energy and great minerality. Excellent aging potential! From biodynamically grown grapes." Wine Advocate 97/100 "The Polish Hill Riesling is muscular and defined in its structure and is routinely possessed of an authority and grace straight off the bat. This 2022 Polish Hill Riesling is mineral and fine, but phenolic and taut, too. The acidity creates tension and...
Grosset Springvale Riesling 2020 (EL 96)
Awards: Langton Classification VII: Rated ‘Excellent’ Wine Ark: One of Australia’s ‘Ten Most Collected White Wines’ Reviews: Tyson Stelzer, WBM, November/December 2020 Jeff Grosset describes the volume of his 40th vintage as ‘woeful’, with drought inflicting his lowest yields in three decades. To achieve his signature pinpoint accuracy under such circumstances is monumental indeed. All the fragrant apple blossom, fresh lemon and crunchy granny smith apple that we love of Springvale are here in full measure, impeccably energised by focussed acidity. 93 points. Erin Larkin, erinlarkin.com.au, August 2020 Lime zest, pith,...
Grosset Springvale Riesling 2021 (JS 97)
James Suckling 97 points. A piercing wine that has such intense and focused lime fruit, as well as sweetly fragrant floral notes. Spellbinding intensity to the nose here. The palate sings with clarity and bright, vivid acidity drives pure lime-juice flavors long and fresh. Full of energy and a real powerhouse. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
Grosset Springvale Riesling 2022 (JH 95)
James Halliday Wine Companion, 95/100 Certified organic and biodynamic. A high-tension, fragrant Springvale release. Bright, floral perfume of lime blossom, ozone, blackcurrant and green apple. A strong spectrum of citrus flavours are the currency here: lemon, lime and a squirt of pulpy grapefruit zing with a faintly yeasty, almond-like character to finish. Quiet complexity and vitality are writ large here. Excellent. 95 points. Mike Bennie Published 13 September 2022. Wine Advocate 95+. Coiled. That's what this 2022 Springvale Riesling is. It's like a compressed spring, waiting for release. The fruit is from the Springvale vineyard and...
Killikanoon Clare Valley Mort's Block Riesling 2019 (JH 92)
James Halliday Wine Companion 92 points. A regional stalwart, always offering good value. Quince, pink grapefruit, spa salts and lemon zest, careening along a structural meld of talcy chew and bright acidity. Relaxed in the regional context. Nothing too shrill. Ned Goodwin MW Published 01 August 2020. WINERY NOTES: Hand selected parcels were chosen from across our famed Golden Hillside vineyards, including the original Mort’s Block Vineyard that started it all. 100% Watervale fruit, only minutes from the Kilikanoon winery. Pale straw in appearance with brilliant clarity and youthful green tints. Lifted Riesling profile; lemon curd, hints...
Max & Me Woodcarvers Mirooloo Eden Riesling 2021 (JH 93)
High-toned blossom/flower scents fill the bouquet. The palate is juicy with Rose's lime juice and crisp, clear acidity to give balance now and join forces with the fruit as the wine gains texture and complexity with prolonged cellaring. Max & Me 2021 ‘Mirooloo Road’ is from grapes grown by Michael Mason on his Flaxman Valley vineyard. The site (on Mirooloo Road) is cool, with a southerly aspect. Natural yield restraint occurs due to the limited fertility and soil-depth of the quartz and mica schist with shallow underlain sandstone bedrock. Pick date: 04/03/2021. An idyllic growing season preceded Vintage 21. Winter 20 gave good rainfall...
O'Leary Walker Polish Hill Riesling 2020 (RJ 96, JH 95)
O'Leary Walker Wines was established in 2000 by winemakers David O'Leary and Nick Walker. With over twenty five years experience and established reputations making premium wine with the big companies, these two long time friends decided to take control of their own destiny and craft small batches of wine from some of the best vineyard sites in South Australia. With a great leap of faith they are now doing exactly what they set out to. "The 20th vintage and what a cracker it was in Clare. This is distinctly finer and more delicate than the Watervale wine from this vintage. It really reflects this outstanding area. Has a pronounced bath salts...
O'Leary Walker Watervale Riesling 2021 (JP 96)
Jeni Port 96 points. A natural cool beauty, Watervale combines stunning aromatics – apple blossom, white flowers – with lingering aromas of Tahitian lime, lemon, grapefruit. Citrus and talc florals work hand in hand here. Soft, textural acidity offers a solid foundation for the brisk lemony brightness and lime cordial intensity of the fruit. And it lasts and lasts on a long, clean finish. Guess you might say I fell hard for this young riesling. A classic riesling vintage in the Clare Valley is a thing to behold. Excellent drinking now, it will be a pleasure to follow its journey. Date Tasted: October 2021; Drink: 2021 to 2033;Rating: 96...
