"Flagship pinot noir only produced in outstanding vintages. From vines on the steepest and most exposed part of the Greystone vineyard. Intense, inky, firmly-structured pinot noir with dark berry, red-fleshed plum, liquorice and new leather flavours. A big wine that deserves decanting and will certainly repay cellaring." ..

People thought we were crazy planting on the top of a steep limestone hill in North Canterbury. We got told the yields would be too low ( they were right ), the steep access would make it difficult and expensive to work ( right again ), the wind would buffet the vines ( yes ) and the limestone was only just below the soil horizon so the vines would really struggle. What we have proved is that this effort pays off in providing grapes of incredible concentration. The critics have raved about this wine and it was even named the "Best International Pinot Noir" by Decanter magazine - defeating wines from Burgundy, Oregon and Australia.

The whole reason Greystone exists is to show what Pinot Noir can do on the limestone hills and dry climate of North Canterbury. This wine is the culmination of that work and as such is named after the Thomas Brother's who saw the potential here that few others could.

Rich intense nose showing black cherry, violets, spice & lifted chalkiness. A wine with both energy & structure, ready for long aging or to enjoy young after decanting. Full with fine tannins, intense black fruits, savoury notes of black olive, porcini & espresso roast. The finish shows fine-grained oak and substantial length.
