Amisfield Pinot Noir 2020 (BC 94)
Bob Campbell MW 94 Points. Deeply scented pinot noir with floral, red rose, cassis, ripe plum and dark cherry flavours. Intense, sumptuous wine with a firm structure and a lengthy finish. Good now but should develop well with time. Drink 2022–2030. Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2019 (JS 93)
"A very attractive Crimson with bright red cherries and perfume, as well as a sappy edge that adds further interest. Plenty of spice, too. The palate has a very supple and elegant feel with a plush and fresh core of spicy red cherries and plums. Bright, vibrant and gently creamy. Drink now. Screw cap." James Suckling 93/100 "This vintage has the intensity and structure that we love from Martinborough – complex notes of rose petal, blood orange, sandalwood, tamarind and toasted rice entice aromatically while the flavours of cranberry, cinnamon and bergamot tea align with the soft savoury notes of tobacco to taste. This structure makes for a...

Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2019 (JS 98)
"A complex wine from the outset with gently reductive notes and modern oak spice threading into fresh cherry, spiced bread, rose, forest wood and blood orange, as well as darker cherry notes. The palate tells the full story. This displays real power and definition with clear-cut and powerful tannins. The intensity of the red-cherry fruit is impressive and the way it occupies the finish with length and uplift is the thing that defines great pinot noir per se. Strong vintage. Drink over the next decade. Screw cap." 98 points JamesSuckling.com Ata Rangi's 2019 Pinot Noir is the whole package. It has a piercing, focused nose, offering clarity of...
Blank Canvas "Anthem" Vineyd Pinot Noir 2018 (CD 95, BH 92+)
Reviews: 95 Points - Outstanding. "Ripe, intense, richly scented, varietal and fruity bouquet with aromas of ripe dark cherries and plums. There’s a definitive dried herb, savoury complexity - classic Otago message - then aromas of smoky oak with a quiet clove baking spice suggestion. All the action for this wine is on the palate - it’s delicious with a detailed story of spices and fruits, textures and length, concentration and a sense of place. Tannins are fine and polished, oak has a nut-like quality alongside the toast-wood. The core of fruit finishes with a floral note - a flick forming part of a lengthy youthful finish. Fabulous...

It has crunchy lifted acidity which carries the defined, fine-grain tannins and background of spicy, savoury oak. No 1 NZ Pinot Noir for 2019, Jancis Robinson Wine Reviews. Cameron Douglas MS 96 points. Bob Campbell MW 95 points. Reviews: 17.5+ Points (#1 NZ Pinot Noir 2019) "Mid cherry red. A notably savoury aroma though no lack of dark and dark-red fruits lifted by a hint of perfumed sweetness, almost a floral note, highlighted by the whole-bunch component, which adds a herbal but not unripe quality which shows more on the day after opening. On the palate, this is a beauty, firmly structured but with extreme tannic finesse. That savoury character on the palate too, with just a hint of stems adding to the well-balanced freshness. Plenty of Southern...
Blank Canvas Una Volta Pinot Noir 2018 (BC 95)
Winemaker's Notes: Una Volta’ means ‘One Time’. In 2018 a single vineyard nestled in the Queensberry subregion halfway between Wanaka and Cromwell in Central Otago, offered its pristine fruit to us. Having both grown up in Central Otago, the bounty of the region always proves tempting, but this fruit was stunning. The nature of this fruit, being from a warm and vibrantly fruity year, presented an exceptional situation where we decided to use only the free-run portion, such was the power and density of the wine following fermentation. It is gloriously immense, with black fruit compote, warm baking spice notes and a rich velvety texture....
Chard Farm Eliza Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 (BC 94)
Bob Campbell MW 94 points. "From a small lime-laced block on the edge of the terrace overlooking the Kawarau River. This single vineyard wine is made from a small 3 tonne parcel of Pinot Noir clones 777 and 115 that is its own unique block within the Eliza Vineyard. Chard Farm Mata-Au Pinot Noir 2020
The bouquet becomes increasingly attractive as it shifts through ripe red berries, sweet floral tones, darker spicey notes and herby complexity. Mata-Au (the Maori name for the Clutha River) is a blend of fruit from Chard Farm’s four estate vineyards. New oak has been reduced to just 20% to boost flavour purity. The nose is captivating, full and perfumed, nuances of cherry blossom, violet melded with dark cherries, black Doris plums, underlined herbs, moss and earthy elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly presented with poised concentration; aromas of dark-toned cherries and young plums adorned by violet, cherry blossom, herbaceous notes of thyme and mint, followed by a savoury, earthy, peppery, mineral long finish. Devil's Staircase Central Otago Pinot Noir 2022
Made by the team at Rockburn. Winery Note: Our Devil’s Staircase wines are inspired by the winding road leading from Queenstown to Kingston along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Sourced from several Central Otago vineyards, the Devil’s Staircase Pinot Noir takes the willing down into the realm of decadence and Bacchanalian delights. Here, everything is pleasure spiced up with a bit of naughty. The unrelenting Central Otago environment tortures the vines whose twisted limbs produce a wine worthy of absolution; strong and sensual with lashings of dark fruit, sinfully succulent and devilishly good. The flavours are practically immoral, full of...

The palate has impressively fluid tannins and a fresh, ripe core of dark-berry flavors. Complex and vibrant syrah. Drink or hold." Feb 2021. TASTING NOTES The wine shows primary dark fruits of the forest like boysenberry and black currants interlaced with violets and hints of black pepper. We decided to age the wine on oak for a little longer this time, 24 instead of 18 months. This brought out a certain maturity and subdued vibrancy in the form of dulce de leche, vanilla, nutmeg and allspice on the nose....

Winemaker's Notes: Power and energy on the nose – prominent dark florals, oak spices and red/dark berries. Intensity and drive whilst retaining a focused mineral line. Smoke and dried herbs bring a fireside quality. Restrained density & marvellous ageing potential. Our highest Pinot Noir block was hand picked before being hand sorted. A small percentage (10%) of whole bunch was retained for tannin structure, layers and complexity of flavours. The wine stayed on skins for 28 days allowing for full yet supple tannins, before a gentle pressing to French oak barrels where the wine aged for 15 months. Youthful and equally complex on the palate with firm textures of tannins and acidity contrasted by a core of ripe red berry flavours and mineral. Mount Edward Morrison Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017 (WA 91)
Wine Advocate 91 points. The 2017 Morrison Vineyard Pinot Noir originates from the Lowburn subregion, one of the Central Otago's warmer sites. It features scents of cola and root beer, joined by ripe black cherries and loam. Medium to full-bodied, it's riper and rounder than the other current releases from Mount Edward, offering a useful point of difference. Supple tannins and a smooth, lingering finish suggest it may be consumed now, although it should still drink well for at least another five years. JC Sept 2021.

Mount Edward Pinot Noir 2017 (WA 91)
Wine Advocate 91 points. Classic Pinot Noir sous-bois character marks the nose of the 2017 Pinot Noir. There are also attractive hints of blackberries and herbal tea in this medium to full-bodied effort.
